Volunteer Opportunities

Local People Serving Local Nonprofits - Volunteer Opportunities

Community support is vital to any nonprofit organization. This means not just fiscally, but in donated time and work as well! If you are interested in giving back to your community some of your time, then here is a compiled list of volunteer opportunities available to you in the Shawano Area!

Local Volunteer Opportunities

Our organization has grown by leaps and bounds this past year. We currently have 30 students, with many more on a waiting list and we hate to say "no" to anyone who wants to learn English. Here are our parameters:

* We tutor ABE (Adult Basic Education), Citizenship and ELL (English Language Learning)

* Volunteer tutors do not need a background in education or be able to speak another language

* Online training and subsequent mentoring are provided

* Volunteer tutors will be matched with a student to determine a mutually agreeable time to meet every week (generally our tutoring is one-on-one)

* Tutors and students meet once a week for 1.5 hrs - either in person or virtually

* All materials for tutors and are provided

* Tutors need to have a basic working knowledge of computers and be comfortable with texting and email

*Call Melody Boyd (Board Chair) at 847-345-1830

Psst... have you heard the news? The 2025 Draft is almost here, and it’s going to be BIGGER THAN EVER!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shawano County is gearing up for our own "Big Draft" to recruit the next generation of mentors. Just like NFL teams are scouting their future stars, we're on the lookout for Bigs—mentors ready to make a lasting impact on local youth (Littles). Will you be one of them?

It takes LITTLE to be BIG, and trust us, you’ll have a blast doing it! Mentoring is all about showing up, having fun, and making a difference. Imagine watching a football game with your Little—what better way to build a lasting friendship in the same time it takes to enjoy the game?

Whether you’re playing games, going to events, or simply spending time together, you’re helping shape a child’s future for the better. And with our flexible programs, there’s a perfect fit for any schedule—whether you have a little time or a lot, we make it easy to get involved.

When you play a little, they win big! Be the game changer. Be the everyday hero. Just be YOU!
